mother: suffered (and continues to suffer) from several recurrent health issues that don't cripple her daily functioning too much but are inconvenient enough to cause issues and render her unable to keep steady employment aside from homemaking and working alongside her husband. gave birth to tay late in life after consistent difficulty getting pregnant. viewed tay's existence (and especially his intellect) as a blessing, but grew a bit more distant from him after the birth of her second son (most likely a result of tay's mischievous and unpredictable behavior).
father: a farmer, not wealthy by any means, and the polar fiscal opposite of his successful brother (tay's soon-to-be-mentioned uncle). a family man, very intelligent, but never attended university. wants the best for tay and wants to see him achieve his potential for the sake of both himself and his family legacy.
brother: significantly (5 years) younger than tay. the object of tay's jealousy after his birth, because, as is typical, the attention shifted from tay to the new baby of the family, and continued to do so afterward. now, they get along, as a result of tay's establishment of himself as a worthy individual, and tay now feels a sense of duty and responsibility toward his younger sibling (and several twinges of guilt for having left him behind in thailand when he moved to korea for schooling).
uncle: the previous owner of the residence in seoul in which tay lives. he had moved to south korea with his wife (tay's aunt) several years ago, but recently were forced to relocate back to thailand as a result of business. tay pays his uncle back each month with what would be rent for the place, because it is technically not in his name. they also keep in touch with regularity.
others: two sets of grandparents, multiple aunts and uncles on both sides, several cousins. a large family.

tay graduated high school as the highest ranked student in his year, and his work ethic, test scores, and grades earned him outstanding scholarships. the summer after high school, with support and persuasion from both his uncle and father, tay moved to seoul to attend university there. in seoul, tay originally stayed with his aunt and uncle in their home, but after they moved back to thailand, he had the place to himself. the residence is a small home, tidy and well furnished.tay's only pets are the koi that reside in the pond in his garden, although he would like to get a cat.at konkuk, tay serves as a tutor for multiple subjects and an international student volunteer.at work, tay earns a great deal of tips, likely due to the peaceful, welcoming aura he exudes and the natural flirtatious, inviting nature of his personality. the aforementioned "peaceful, welcoming aura" is both intentional and unintentional; that is, for the most part, it is natural and simply part of his demeanor, but it also can be a facade in his quest for people mastery. both are just as convincing.tay is very interested in mindfulness and general wellness. he meditates regularly and is a religious user of incense, diffusers, essential oils, and the like.tea is his drink of choice. his kitchen is very well-stocked with multiple kinds. collecting different types is something of a hobby for him. almost always, he gets seven hours of sleep a night. however, regardless of how much he actually gets, he will wake up early each morning, citing his favorite time of the day as being the quiet that the time before sunrise brings. often, he'll sit on his porch with his tea, either reading or completing some sort of word puzzle with only the sound of the nearby birds.he is an avid reader and will throw his nose into almost anything he picks up, but he prefers the classics as well as books on religion and philosophy.his favorite subject in school was history, and he continues that love to this day, evident in the amount of documentaries he watches on netflix and the number of nonfiction books in his home.he is a very healthy eater and makes just about every meal he consumes. even his snacks are healthy.
both tay's backstory and current personality are based largely on thai folklore, in particular the tale of sri thanonchai. throughout his life, sri thanonchai used his quick wit and wordplay to cope with and talk himself out of any troubles that came his way, whether intentional or unintentional. no matter how deep and troubled the waters, he’s able to escape. more information on the legend can be found here and here.
an extension to the tale has been applied as a result of its longevity, in which every so often, after struggles with conception lead hopeful mothers to pleas to indra (which holds true to the original tale), a child bright as the moon shall be born to them. the child will possess extraordinary wit and will surely use it, as did the original mortal sri thanonchai. this child, in this circumstance, is tay.
